An AI receptionist answers calls and messages around the clock, books appointments and passes difficult cases to your team. What it costs depends less on the technology than on how many calls you get, what the assistant must do and which systems it connects to. This guide shows published prices, the usual pricing models and what to watch for.

The short answer

According to CloudTalk, most small businesses pay between $50 and $200 a month for an AI phone answering service, plus usage beyond the included minutes or calls and sometimes a setup fee. A custom assistant connected to your own booking system or CRM costs more to set up, but fits your business exactly.

What providers publish

  • Smith.ai Enterprise: from $500 a month
  • Usage-based AI answering: about $0.15 to $0.50 per minute of answered call time (CloudTalk)

What drives the price

  • Call or message volume: most plans include a number of minutes, calls or conversations; above that you pay per minute or per call.
  • What the assistant must do: answering FAQs is simpler than booking and rescheduling appointments, taking orders or qualifying leads.
  • Integrations: connecting to your calendar, practice software, CRM or order system takes set-up work.
  • Languages and voice: extra languages, dialects and a natural-sounding voice can affect the plan you need.
  • Channels: phone only, or also WhatsApp, website chat and social media.
  • Handover to people: rules for when and how a call goes to your team, plus call summaries and data protection.

How to compare offers

  1. Calculate with your real volume. Count your calls and minutes per month, including busy months, and work out the total for each plan.
  2. Ask about everything on top. Extra minutes, phone numbers, setup, integrations and support.
  3. Test it on real questions. Use a trial or demo with the questions your customers really ask.
  4. Check data protection. Where are calls and transcripts stored, and who can access them?
  5. Make sure people stay in charge. The assistant should hand over smoothly to your team when needed.

How we put together your quote

We don't sell a one-size plan. We look at your calls and messages, what the assistant should handle, which systems it must connect to and in which languages. You then get a clear, written quote, free and without obligation, including the running costs, so you know the total before you start.
