If you sell online in Saudi Arabia, three names keep coming up: Salla and Zid, two Saudi store builders, and Shopify, the global platform. All three can run a good store. The right choice depends on where your customers are, how they pay, how you invoice and how far you want to grow. This comparison is based on the platforms' own pages as of October 2026. Plans and prices change often, so always check the current pricing page before you sign up.
The short answer
- Salla or Zid if you sell mainly inside Saudi Arabia and want local payment methods, local shipping and a ZATCA e-invoicing link from the dashboard, with Arabic at the core.
- Shopify if you also sell abroad, want its large international range of apps and themes, or already run a Shopify store in another market.
- A custom store if your products, prices or systems don't fit a store builder, for example price lists for business customers, a link with your ERP or several branches.
Payments: mada, Apple Pay and pay later
Many Saudi shoppers pay with mada, the national debit card network, or with Apple Pay. On Salla, Apple Pay is switched on automatically once mada and Visa are enabled (Salla), pay-later options such as Tamara and Tabby can be added, and your store must be verified before you can connect them (Salla help centre). Zid has its own gateway, Zid Payments, for mada, Visa and Mastercard, and supports Apple Pay (Zid).
Shopify's own payment service, Shopify Payments, is not available in Saudi Arabia: Shopify lists the UAE, but not Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Qatar (Shopify Help Center). Stores there use a third-party payment provider instead, so check which providers support mada before you choose.
ZATCA e-invoicing
VAT-registered businesses in Saudi Arabia must issue e-invoices, and in phase 2 their invoicing must be connected to ZATCA's Fatoora platform, wave by wave (ZATCA). Zid offers a free link with Fatoora from the dashboard, made for phase 2 (Zid help centre). Salla's help centre explains how to link your store to ZATCA from Salla (Salla help centre). On Shopify, the link comes from an app in the Shopify App Store or from your accounting software, so check that the provider you pick works with Fatoora. Read more in our guide to ZATCA e-invoicing for online stores.
Arabic and the shopping experience
Salla and Zid are Saudi platforms with Arabic dashboards and store themes designed for right-to-left text. You can sell in Arabic on Shopify too, but how well a theme handles right-to-left layout varies from theme to theme. Test the menu, product pages and checkout in Arabic on a phone before you commit to one.
Shipping and delivery
Both Saudi platforms connect to shipping companies from the dashboard. Zid, for example, offers shipping through Zid logistics and label printing on every plan (Zid), and Salla connects to local and international carriers. On Shopify, couriers are usually added through apps. Whatever you choose, check delivery to the cities you sell to, cash on delivery and how returns work.
Costs: what to compare
Each platform has several plans and the prices change regularly, so we don't copy numbers here. Open the current pages of Salla, Zid and Shopify and compare:
- the plan price, monthly or yearly
- the fees per payment, charged by the payment provider
- the paid apps and themes you will need
- shipping rates for your typical parcel
- which plan includes what you need, such as your own domain and accounts for your team; on Zid, for example, a custom domain starts from the paid plans
Zid states on its pricing page that it takes no commission on your sales. Payment fees are separate, so ask each payment provider for its rates.
When a custom store makes more sense
Store builders are the quickest way to start. A custom store, built on WooCommerce or from scratch, makes sense when you sell to businesses with their own price lists, need a link with your ERP or warehouse system, run several branches or a marketplace, or want full control over design, data and SEO. It costs more at the start, but you are not limited by a platform's plans. See how we build online stores and websites for businesses in Saudi Arabia.
