“How much does a website cost?” is the question almost every business asks first, and the honest answer is: it depends on what the website needs to do. A five-page company site and an online shop with hundreds of products are very different projects. This guide shows what published price guides say, what drives the price and how to compare quotes.
The short answer
Published price guides put a professionally built small business website at roughly $500 or more with a freelancer and $3,000 or more with an agency; online shops and custom features cost more. What you pay depends on what your website must do. That is why we don't sell fixed packages: every quote is based on your project.
What published price guides say
- Website builder (do it yourself): about $17 to $500+ per month
- Freelancer: about $500 to $10,000+
- Agency: about $3,000 to $30,000+
- Online shop or large website: about $10,000 to $50,000+
Source: WebFX, based on what more than 2,000 businesses spend (checked October 2026). These are market ranges, not Vanzasoft prices, and providers define a “website” very differently, so always compare the scope, not only the price.
What drives the price
- Number of pages and content: a one-page site, a five-page company site and a site with dozens of service and location pages are very different amounts of work. Who writes the texts and supplies the photos matters too.
- Design: a ready-made template is cheaper; a custom design that fits your brand takes more time but makes you stand out.
- Features: a contact form is standard; online booking, customer accounts, calculators or connections to your CRM or booking system add work.
- Online shop: the number of products and variants, payment methods, shipping rules and invoicing all influence the price.
- Languages: every extra language needs translated content and its own SEO set-up.
- SEO and speed: a site built to rank (fast, well structured, with the right page titles) takes more care than one that only looks good.
- Who builds it: doing it yourself, a freelancer or an agency each come with different prices, risks and levels of support.
Running costs to plan for
- Domain name: about $1 to $12 a year for a standard domain (WebFX).
- Hosting: from about $2 a month for simple shared hosting to far more for busy sites and shops (WebFX).
- Maintenance: updates, security, backups and small changes. Ask what is included and what costs extra.
- Business email: about $1 to $27 per user per month (WebFX).
How to compare quotes
- Describe the same project to everyone. Pages, features, languages and who supplies texts and photos; otherwise quotes can't be compared.
- Check what is included. Design, content, SEO basics, training, hosting and the first months of support.
- Ask who owns the website. Your domain, content and design files should belong to you.
- Add up the costs over three years. A cheap build with high monthly fees can cost more in total.
- Ask about timing. When will the site be live, and what do they need from you?
- Look at real work and reviews. A portfolio and reviews from real clients say more than a low price.
How we put together your quote
We don't work with fixed packages. You tell us about your business, the pages and features you need, the languages and your timing. We then send you a clear, written quote with exactly what is included, free and without obligation. If something can be done more simply or in stages, we tell you.
The type of site matters most for the price. See what is included in a business website and an online store, and read how to choose a web design agency before you compare quotes.
